The Cuban Physics Society invites to the symposium:

Rutherford backscattering and related

analytical techniques: from 1911 to 2011

To be held in La Habana, March 7- 9th, 2011

The symposium is planned to be an international meeting to celebrate the centennial of the famous Ernst Rutherford paper on the backscattering of alpha particles. In this context it is expected to encourage the exchange among researchers and professors of different countries in subjects related to significance and applications of Rutherford Backscattering (RBS) and other ion beam analytical techniques. Plenary lectures as well as oral and poster communications will be organized. There will be also a school on Rutherford backscattering principles.

Topics

  • Significance and consequences of the Rutherford Experiment

  • Recent Advances in Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS), Elastic recoil detection analysis (ERDA), and related techniques.

Abstracts

Abstracts of contributions containing title, author, affiliations and text (between 200 and 400 words and without equations or figures) in Word or pdf format must be sent to A. González (agonzale@icmf.inf.cu). Preference for poster or oral communication must be indicated (the organizers will try to meet this preference).

Important dates

Abstract deadlines: February 1st, 2011

Registration deadline: March 7th, 2011

Fees

General: 150 CUC

Participants from Cuban Institutions: 250 Pesos (MN)

The fees include the symposium materials with abstracts booklet, participation in the sessions, welcoming cocktail and coffee breaks. For details concerning fees payment, please contact A. Pérez (aurora@icmf.inf.cu). Foreign participants are advised to avoid bringing US dollars to Cuba because the exchange rate is worse than that of the other currencies.

Registration

Send an e- mail to Augusto González

(agonzale@icmf.inf.cu) with the subject: registration RBS 2011. In the body of the message include: name, title, institution, address, phone and Fax, also indicate if you intend (or not) to present a communication.

The proceedings of the symposium will be published in the Cuban Journal of Physics. Please consult the web
